While the NEP 2020 recommends a 10 day BAGLESS period during grade 1 TO 8 , many states and school have adopted BAGLESS SATURDAY as a weekly initiative for various classes to integrate these principles into the regular School schedule. . It also mentions that “Bagless days will be encouraged throughout the year for various types of enrichment activities involving arts, quizzes, sports, and vocational crafts.
Regarding to the mentioned activities almost all the activities are taken place in my school. Students are on 9th cloud when they came to know about this bagless Saturday and it’s a very obvious.
Here I am very greatful to share the experience of one of the Saturday with you. Initially we had decided to play games to the students. These games are not traditional games or any street games , but FUN GAMES. Which emphasize the enjoyment, the activity and the playful nature.
Furthermore I made a request to all the class teachers to fix any game for their class all teachers set about the stuff needed for the games.
The arrival of that day is extreme joyful pursuit. It was full of entertaining. The students where in 7th heaven. They were floating on air. The noise of crowd, the brust of applause were on another level. Even teachers had also a great fun and seems like they reverted to the childhood.
To put it briefly the day was over joyed for students and teachers as well.
GAME CATALOGUE
1) Grab the chair :-
The chairs are arranged in two rows (or often a single line for each team, with the objects set up for a zig-zag path). The total number of chairs is often equal to or one less than the number of participants, depending on the specific goal. The game is a variation of a race or agility drill,
Action/Rules:
The goal is to complete a course by running in a “zig-zag motion”.
Students weave around the chairs (or cones) in a serpentine pattern.
In the “Zig-Zag Chair Race” variation, the objective is to reach the first chair in the row and sit down to win the round.
In a “Zig-Zag Relay” variation, the player returns to the starting line after completing the course and hands a baton or tag to the next player, with the first team to finish winning.
2) Balance the balloon :-
Hold the stick.Balance the balloon in the air (presumably using the stick to keep it from falling, perhaps by tapping or lightly supporting it)
Hang the bangles on the stick (while simultaneously balancing the balloon).
This is a multi-tasking and focus game.
3) Balloon Cup Carry Race:-
Each player starts with one uninflated balloon and one plastic cup (usually with the open side facing up).
The player must fully inflate the balloon and then, while holding the air in, carefully tuck the knotted or closed end of the balloon inside the cup.
The pressure of the inflated balloon expanding inside the cup’s rim is what secures the cup to the balloon.
The player holds the balloon itself (which is now acting as a handle) and the cup hangs underneath, without the player ever touching the cup with their hand
Players must run or walk as fast as possible to a designated finish line.
4) Mouth carry cup relay :
Students stand in a circle, holding hands. Their palms should be facing outward (away from the center of the circle).
The cups are lined up (the “sleeping row”) on a table a short distance away. The goal is for every student to retrieve a cup and return to the finish line, all while keeping the circle intact (holding hands).
The group, holding hands, runs or moves together toward the table.
One at a time (or simultaneously, depending on the number of cups/students), each student must lean down and use only their mouth to pick up one cup from the table.
The students must never let go of each other’s hands throughout the process.
The group wins once every student has a cup in their mouth, and the entire circle has moved back past the designated finish line.
Advantages
1. Holistic Development and Well-being
2. Enhanced Learning and Skills
3. Exposure and Community Connection
In essence, Bagless Saturday is designed to make learning a joyful, stress-free, and engaging experience, allowing students to explore their interests, develop practical skills, and connect their classroom knowledge to the real world.
